Sintra is a historic town set within the Sintra Mountains and recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural Landscape. Its lush microclimate, Romantic architecture, and mystical atmosphere have long inspired monarchs, writers, and artists.
Quinta da Regaleira and Biester Palace stand in the heart of this old town, in an area shaped by 19th‑century Romanticism and the unique dialogue between nature and architecture that defines Sintra’s identity.
-
Quinta da Regaleira was built between 1898 and 1912 for António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro and designed by Luigi Manini. The estate blends Manueline, Gothic, Renaissance, and Romantic styles.
Its Initiation Well, tunnels, and symbolic gardens draw on influences from Freemasonry, Rosicrucianism, Alchemy, and Mythology, forming a landscape conceived as a spiritual journey. -
Biester Palace, completed in 1880 by architect José Luís Monteiro, was created for the Biester family, known for their literary and intellectual connections.
Its interiors feature work by Luigi Manini and decorative elements inspired by late Romanticism and 19th‑century European arts. Recently reopened, the palace reveals elegant rooms, romantic gardens, and a contemplative atmosphere unique within Sintra.
